FT Ductile’s Sales and Technical Manager, Gavin Adams has been a Cub Scout Leader (Akela) at the 1st Sutton Coldfield Sea Scout (1.S.C.S.S) Group for the last 10 years. The group, which was formed in 1942, currently has around 70 young members with ages ranging from 6-18 years old.
The aim of the Sea Scouts is to teach Scouts traditional scouting skills with an emphasis on water based activities such as canoeing, pulling (rowing) and sailing. Over the summer months, the children have the opportunity to get out on the water every week.
1st Sutton Coldfield Sea Scouts own two training boats (called Rovers) for this purpose, whose sails needed replacing. FT Ductile Ltd was pleased to fund the replacement sails along with the Royal Navy who kindly matched FTD’s donation. The 1st Sutton Coldfield Sea Scout Group are one of only 101 Sea Scout Groups in the United Kingdom to be officially recognised by the Royal Navy, as part of this the group have to be inspected every 18 months to ensure that they meet the Royal Navy’s exceptionally high levels of discipline, knowledge and Scouting skills.
